Pie VAT is a digital product aimed at the tourism industry. With this app non-EU tourists can get the VAT back for merchandise they purchased during their travel in EU. Originally, the tourists would have to go through a long process to get the VAT back for purchased items. The tourists would have to fill in lengthy forms and stand in line in the airport, to have the goods checked visually by the VAT return staff.
All of this can now be done via the Pie VAT app, no more lengthy forms to fill in, queues at the airport or have the goods checked manually by staff at the airport.

Concept
My colleagues and I worked on the wireframes for the platform. Planning the structure and setup to accommodate this, we worked on two interfaces 1) the tourists 2) the boutiques offering the Pie VAT solution.
I often start the Conceptual faze by trying out different design direction. I was aiming for a design that would make the users feel joy and excitement while using the product. Adding to the already exciting feeling when reaching a vacation destination for the first time, with all the new experiences awaiting ahead.
The app was a good starting point to illustrate the fun and easy to use tax-free experience offered by Pie VAT. To make the app experience stand out, I went for vibrant colours, dynamic shapes and illustrations for the various categories shops had to offer.
This concept was also applied in all the other projects I worked on for Pie VAT. This gave the company a coherent and recognizable look throughout all their platforms.
Illustrations
For the categories i designed a series of illustrations that could demonstrate what type of merchandise the stores had to offer. The illustrations were designed to be vibrant and alluring.
The app
With the app tourists can both locate stores that provide the Pie VAT taxfree solution and use the app to get the VAT returned for the purchased goods.
Dashboard for the merchants
Design of the dashboard for the stores. With this dashboard the store can follow the sales that are made to VAT return customers. The dashboard provides an overview of where in the process the goods are in relation to the pay-outs for the VAT refunded
Website
Design of a new website with two functions. 1) Must be informative and entice shops as well as tourists to choose this VAT return solution. 2) Sign in for the shops to their merchant dashboard.
In addition to all the digital solutions, there were various print design assignments. This included shop signs, flyers for tourists and other advertising material.
